Teng Chart – Shallow Foundation Interpolator

Teng’s Foundation Chart – Quick Interpolator

for preliminary checks • settlement-based qa

This tool lets you digitize Teng’s charts (from W.C. Teng, Foundation Design) by entering a few (B, qa) points and then performs log–log interpolation to estimate net allowable bearing pressure at any footing width B. Add your project’s chart points for clay or sand and choose your settlement criterion (e.g., 25/40/50 mm). Preset samples are included for demonstration only.

Notes & How to Use

  • Enter at least two (B, qa) points taken from the appropriate Teng chart (choose soil and settlement limit). More points give smoother curves.
  • The tool does log–log linear interpolation between adjacent points in B. Extrapolation beyond the smallest/largest B is allowed but flagged with a warning.
  • The optional factor α lets you apply depth, water-table, shape, or local code adjustments as a single multiplier to qa.
  • Preset samples are illustrative only. Replace them with your project’s actual chart reads from Teng (1962/1984 editions) or your organization’s verified reproductions.
  • Output is a preliminary check. Do detailed settlement/bearing verification per applicable standards (e.g., IS 6403, IS 8009, IRC, ACI/ACI 336).
